Dave Rovles, owner of Think Real Estate awarded the $5000 prize to Sophia Galstyan, a high school senior attending the University of California Los Angeles in the fall. She has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to strengthening her community through music and mentorship. As a volunteer at the Scholl Canyon retirement home, Sophia discovered the transformative power of music as a form of therapy and inter-generational bridge. Her passion for music and community service led her to collaborate with the non-profit organization Children’s Music Fund and the school club, Mentees to Mentors, making a positive impact in the lives of elderly individuals and children facing challenges.

La Crescenta Community Scholarship ($1,000) – Nicole Tanita
La Crescenta Scholarship provided by Think Real Estate Agent James You was awarded to Nicole Tanita. Her dedication to supporting students with special needs and disabilities has left a profound impact on her community. As a volunteer at the NotYourAverageBasketball camp and the Special Olympics Club, Nicole has shown compassion and empathy in her work. For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Nicole worked with Club21, creating self-advocacy videos with students with Down syndrome to promote inclusivity and understanding. Nicole’s commitment to making a difference in her community through volunteering and support has inspired others to embrace differences and foster a sense of belonging. James You, La Crescenta resident and La Crescenta Real Estate specialist, shared his thoughts, saying, “I am inspired by the passion and commitment of these young individuals to make a difference in their communities. As a member of the La Crescenta community, I am proud to award the La Crescenta Community Scholarship and contribute to fostering the next generation of good neighbors.”

Highland Park Scholarship provided by Think Real Estate agent Wendy Colton was awarded to Saray Cortes. She is attending UCLA in the fall, and is determined to be the first in her family to attain a college degree and pursue her dream of becoming a pediatrician. Saray Cortes has made a significant impact on her community through her dedication to immigrant rights and education. As a core member of Wise Up!, an organization that educates high school undocumented youth and allies, she founded the Unity Group at her school, providing a platform for both undocumented and documented students to learn about immigrant rights, the California Dream Act, and FAFSA. Through marches and advocacy efforts, Saray has worked tirelessly to create an inclusive community and raise awareness about the resources available to students beyond their school. I am thrilled to support her.”
