COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, November 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — French author Zoé Mahfouz has reached an international literary milestone: ADHD in D Minor, Zoé Mahfouz’s debut short story collection, has been acquired for the collections of the Royal Danish Library (Det Kgl. Bibliotek), Denmark’s national library and one of Scandinavia’s foremost cultural and research institutions.
With a collection exceeding 40 million items, the Royal Danish Library is regularly included among the world’s largest libraries. Some international collection-size rankings place it around ninth or tenth worldwide, underscoring the scale and international significance of the institution.
Written in English by French author Zoé Mahfouz, who is based in France, ADHD in D Minor has crossed borders to become part of the collections of an institution entrusted with preserving and providing access to Denmark’s cultural heritage, alongside an extensive body of international literature and knowledge.
Nominated for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Short Story Collection, ADHD in D Minor is an unconventional, humour-driven collection combining sketches, monologues, manifestos, character studies and observations on contemporary life. Drawing on the rhythms of television, sharp satire and an irreverent narrative voice, the book challenges traditional literary structures. It has already found its way into international library collections, including those of Brown University (USA), the University of Helsinki (Finland) and University College Cork (Ireland). Its readership extends well beyond university walls: the collection is also held at the Mars Desert Research Station (USA) and in the onboard libraries of Scripps Institution of Oceanography research vessels (USA).
For Zoé Mahfouz, the acquisition marks a particularly meaningful moment in the international journey of her English-language work: written by a French author based in France, ADHD in D Minor now forms part of Denmark’s national library collections. The occasion carries a fitting resonance with the Royal Danish Library’s guiding motto, “Vi viser vej til viden i et samfund i forandring” — “We show the way to knowledge in a changing society.”
